First Presbyterian Church of Northville, Michigan is seeking an assistant minister who will be charged with developing a new ministry for the church that focuses on serving a younger, non-traditional and under-served demographic. The assistant minister position is designed as a twelve month contract position. It is our hope and intention to transition this contract position into a permanent associate minister position as we see signs that we are being successful in reaching more people. The congregation is supportive of this plan, and the new assistant minister will be given time, resources and latitude to establish a new worshipping community at FPC Northville.
We are looking for a compassionate person who is passionate about sharing God’s love with others. This person must have excellent interpersonal skills and enjoy going out into the community to make new connections. Our new assistant pastor has to be a good listener and a creative thinker in order to determine how to help people connect with God. He/she needs to be able to engage with the unique needs and challenges found in an affluent community. Community engagement must co-exist with assisting the senior pastor with pastoral care for the existing congregation and leading our current Children & Youth team. Our new assistant pastor must be adept at dealing with both an emerging, non-traditional congregation and a largely older and more traditional congregation. Flexibility, resilience, and spiritual maturity will be important characteristics, as will a high comfort level with technology.
