Flossmoor Community Church, an active, diverse and inclusive south suburban church known for it’s excellence in Music Ministries, seeks a Praise Director to ensure that excellent praise & worship music done to the glory of God is provided by the Praise Team, soloists and ensembles for assigned Sunday morning worship and special services.
Desired Gift and Knowledge Base
Ability to read and conduct a variety of praise/contemporary music charts.
Ability to rehearse and direct both singers and instrumentalists
Ability to choose appropriate worship music based on scripture/themes
Ability to lead the congregation in songs of Praise
Worship Expertise and Creative Energy – Willingness to explore and master the contemporary Christian music “scene” in ways that enhance the overall worship life of the church. A willingness to dream fresh, exciting dreams for the Praise Team.
Preferred: ability to play at least one leading musical instrument
To thoroughly and creatively plan for and implement Praise Team musical components of magnificent worship experiences, 2 to 3 times each month from September through May.
1. Worship Planning
In collaboration with the preaching pastor, plan for music appropriate to the church season, weekly worship theme, and pastoral vision, emphasizing a more contemporary repertoire.
2. Team Management
In collaboration with the Coordinator of Music Ministries, establish make-up of and oversee recruitment for Praise Ensemble vocalists and band, including sound techs.
Plan for and implement weekly Praise Team rehearsals that prepare them to meet FCC standards for musical excellence in worship.
4. Sunday and Special Worship
Plan for and implement Sunday and special worship experiences that:
a. exhibit musical excellence.
b. demonstrate creativity, diversity and breadth.
c. evidence the faith, community and “heart” of the Praise Team.
5. Team Coordination
Attend periodic music team meetings and other meetings deemed necessary for the effective functioning of Praise Team within the larger worship and music ministry of the church.
The Praise Director will work closely with the Board of Worship and Arts, Coordinator of Music Ministries, the Pastors, and other Directors to insure coordinated efforts in all aspects of our worship life.
The Praise Ensemble Director is accountable to the Governing Board through the Senior Pastor and the Personnel Committee.
This is a 10-month part-time position, August through May.
