In Memoriam: Dr. Melinda Scott Krei

Friends of McCormick,

It is with the deepest sadness that we share with you the news that our dear friend, Melinda Krei, died after her long battle with cancer on June 13, 2019. Melinda served this institution with grace and distinction as a trustee for many years before being elected only the third woman to chair our board. Sadly, it was just a few months after she became chair that she was diagnosed with glioblastoma. Even in the relatively brief time that she served in this leadership role, Melinda had a profound impact on McCormick, on me, and I know on many of you. Melinda knew how to move things forward and she faced our challenges with the same diligence, grace, and courage that she relied upon in her own battle with cancer.

Melinda was smart, kind, gentle, and genuine—a spirit as warm and memorable as her Tennessee accent. She loved McCormick and McCormick loved her back. We will all miss her dearly.

We send our love and prayers to Melinda’s husband, Ken, and the entire Krei family, to her long-time pastor and friend, the Rev. Dr. Deborah Block, and all of Melinda’s many friends at the church she loved, Immanuel Presbyterian in Milwaukee. We give thanks for Melinda’s life, her presence in our lives, and for life everlasting.

A service remembering her and celebrating the life she so generously shared with us and so many was held at Immanuel Presbyterian Church (1100 N Astor St, Milwaukee, WI 53202) on June 29 at 1:30 pm with a reception following at the neighboring Women’s Club.
