Associate Pastor, First Presbyterian Church, Albuquerque, New Mexico

Listed: 03-20-23

Employer: First Presbyterian Church 215 Locust St NE, Albuquerque, NM 87102 | 505- 764-2900

Location: Albuquerque, New Mexico

Position: Full-time

Website: https://firstpresabq.org

Contact: Ms. Beth Busick

Job Description

Description of First Presbyterian Church

What is the congregations or organizations vision for ministry:

Our vision of ministry is guided by a metric not recorded in the annual statistical review: how many lives are touched by the welcome and ministry we provide. There is our traditional constituency of college-educated professionals, many with generational roots in the congregation. The Presbytery office on our campus ties us to the larger connectional church. We house a nationally accredited pre-school that has served thousands of children and their families for over half a century. We make space in our building for multiple community mission partners for the work they do to meet the many hungers in our community, such as our partnership with Lutheran Family Services to process hundreds of asylees from the border on their way to sponsor families, or The Santa Fe Opera Young Singers program that holds lessons along with other community music groups that rehearse here. We have hosted meetings of the New Mexico Conference of Churches, who also office in our building, as well as the ordination of the local Episcopal bishop. All these and more serve to fill the hunger for beauty, for justice and equity, for cooperation and connection, for love lived out with and for one another. More than anything, we know that our vision for ministry will not look like the past. So, we step forward in faith toward an unknown future looking to the One who speaks creation into being, the Word made flesh who calls it forth, and the breath of the Spirit that gives our church and all of creation life.

How will this position help you to reach your vision and mission goals:

This position will be dedicated to the spiritual education and nurture of the whole congregation- nursery, Godly Play, youth, and adults- to grow in their faith on Sundays and beyond. The person in this role will be tasked with creating and maintaining spaces where questions and wondering are welcome as the church community deepens its engagement with God’s Word and their place in the story that God is telling about us and through us. Such spaces range from the traditional, such as Sunday school, as well as bible and book studies, to cooperative youth and summer events with other churches in the Presbytery, to opportunities beyond the walls of the church that bring us into relationship with neighbors throughout the city.

Provide a description of the characteristics needed by the person who is open to being called to this congregation and or organization:

We are looking for someone with the skills of an educator and the heart of a pastor, who understands what is developmentally appropriate and engages with a wide range of learners and believers. As old forms of doing and being church fall away, we need someone who is creative and can adapt quickly to new technologies and a changing culture in order to reach beyond those who are here to those who are not; those who may be hungry for a faith community where they can learn, grow and make a difference in the world around them. This means we need someone with the resilience to try, maybe fail, and to persist nevertheless. Someone conversant in Spanish would be an asset to the work of reaching beyond the existing congregation.

What specific tasks, assignments, and program areas will this person have responsibility?

he pastor in this position will strengthen our existing Godly Play program by recruiting teachers and ensuring they are trained and feel equipped. They will look for opportunities beyond Sunday school to incorporate children and their families in the life of the church. They will lead youth programming, including a biennial confirmation class, accompanying students to youth week at Ghost Ranch, assisting in Presbytery youth events including Triennium, as well as cultivating essential pastoral relationships with youth and their families. They will preach occasionally, assist in worship and sacraments, and share pastoral care. They will take the initiative to engage the congregation as it exists, and innovate that we might grow together into what God is calling us to become.

Westwood Church believes the best two things we can do for our church family are: 1) help deepen spiritually authentic relationships with each other, and, 2) empower people according to their gifting for God’s glory and the good of others. Those who hold positions of leadership at Westwood must commit themselves to personally living out these values, and to make those values central to their ministry leadership. We value honesty, unity, initiative, and intentionality as we humbly serve those God has placed in our care. With this in mind, we ask you to help shape a healthy culture within the team that helps accomplish the following responsibilities in ways aligned with Westwood’s vision and philosophy.

Solo Pastor, First Presbyterian Church, Leavenworth, Kansas

Listed: 02-28-2023

Employer: First Presbyterian Church | 407 Walnut Street, Leavenworth, KS | 913-682-6891

Location: Leavenworth, Kansas

Website: www.fpc-lvks.org

Job description

Church mission statement:

We will love God with all our being and our neighbors as ourselves. We will nurture a vibrant congregation growing in faith and serving the Lord in our church and community.

What is the congregation’s or organization’s vision for ministry:

Oftentimes during worship, when the congregation is standing to sing a hymn, we can hear the familiar shaking sound of Mellow the Service Dog as he rises for the hymn. It is a reminder that all living creatures, including Mellow and his companion, a military veteran, seek to be in a welcoming and safe space. Embedded in our mission statement are the verbs love, nurture, grow, and serve. Embedded in our congregation are retired and active-duty military members, grandparents, foster parents, gay and lesbian couples, activists, spiritual sojourners – all seeking to embody God’s love in an oftentimes conflicted and hurting world. We seek to live out our mission as a small beam of light in North Leavenworth, a crossroads of many people, where we create a safe space to bring our questions, listen to each other, and listen for God’s still small voice. We seek to live out this mission as we love God and neighbor; nurture our life in the Spirit together; grow in our capacity to be an expansive community of welcome; and serve Christ as we journey with Christ. We welcome ALL into our church family: young and old; wealthy and poor; liberal and conservative; all sexual orientations; and all races and cultures.

How will this position help you to reach your vision and mission goals:

We are searching for a partner willing to roll up their sleeves with us and help focus our mission and vision on our journey forward. There are many talents each member brings to the church family. We have demonstrated a strong willingness and determination to provide direct mission service along with financial support, even during the COVID pandemic. Our members are highly educated and spiritually fed - served by positive, thought-provoking worship services that include a strong music program. This allows our members to take God’s work into the week wherever they go serving God in their daily life. There has been an honest movement in our church toward being an inclusive congregation. We seek a pastor who will help us continue this walk by sharing theological support, guiding thoughtful study of mindful discipleship, and encouraging the realistic use of members' time, talents, and treasures. We strive to be a friendly church family which feels like home to members and others who have passed through our doors. We need someone who will walk with us and share our discernment as we question and explore where God is leading us to serve in this post COVID, electronically influenced world.

What specific tasks, assignments, and program areas will this person have responsibility?

We look forward to being inspired by our pastors' sermons and leadership! Your energy and ideas will help lift up and grow the congregation. Your work with our Session and its programs will cover all key areas of administration, worship, education, and mission/outreach. The deacons are a joyous group working on member care, meals, and shepherding. The Session members and deacons are hard-working, dedicated, and capable, which will ease the work of the pastor. Your input is needed to guide the worship committee and other committees. Members and others associated with the church will look forward to spending time with you during identified office hours.

Specific tasks and assignments include, but will not necessarily be limited to:

• Plan, prepare and direct worship services coordinating with the Worship Committee,

• Provide counseling and spiritual leadership directly to church members and their families, including in home or at other facilities,

• Guide the mission and outreach programs of the church and participate in activities, when possible,

• Advise the Session and its committees regarding the church’s educational programs and curriculum,

• Provide administrative leadership for the church, including participation in Committee meetings as time allows,

• Provide information to the personnel committee regarding performance of staff

Part-time ministry team positions, City Church San Francisco, San Francisco, California

Listed: 02-28-2023

Employer: City Church San Francisco | 2460 Sutter St, San Francisco CA 94115 | 415 346-6994

Location: San Francisco, California

Website: www.citychurchsf.org

Contact: office@citychurchsf.org

We are hiring for the following positions. Each position represents, roughly, a half-time set of responsibilities.  If applicants are interested in a full-time position, please express interest in two or more areas of ministry.

Application deadline is April 30, 2023.

City Church started in 1997 in a living room in San Francisco’s Richmond District. We were a ragtag group of people whose belief ranged from lifelong to newfound curiosity about Jesus to people burned out by religion. Since then, we have grown a bit and moved our meetings to the Russian Center, but our congregation looks the same. Many of us have been part of the faith community for years. Others are brand new to it, and still others are returning after years away. No matter what your history with faith, you are welcome at City Church.

Our theological foundation is one of the most important parts of who we are at City Church. It anchors our faith and gives us roots for an ongoing life of growth. Our Reformed tradition has much to teach us, and it also points us to the wisdom of other traditions, and of creation itself. This theological foundation is a home--not a prison--from which we are nourished, known, and sent to do God’s work in the world.

City Church is part of the Reformed Church in America.
