Grief that has nowhere to go doesn’t disappear—it becomes rage, and rage, rightly held, can become sacred. Drawing on his book Sacred Rage: Love That Didn’t Die With Them, Rev. Dr. Damien W. D. Davis traces a pastoral journey from prison walls to children’s hospital beds, where he discovered that lament, anger, and love are not opposites but companions to be honored.

Rooted in the Black prophetic tradition and years of clinical chaplaincy, Davis presents sacred rage as a practical pastoral theology for meeting people in their darkest moments without rushing them toward premature comfort. This lecture offers chaplains, pastors, and caregivers a faithful framework for sitting with rage rather than silencing it.
