CARRYING THE LEGACY FORWARD
The Jeremiah A. Wright, Jr. Leadership Development Institute at McCormick Theological Seminary preserves and extends Dr. Wright’s transformative legacy through theological learning, practical tools, and leadership formation.
During more than three decades leading Chicago’s Trinity United Church of Christ, Rev. Dr. Wright helped grow its congregation from 87 to nearly 10,000. Rooted in the Black sermonic tradition, his preaching and advocacy for racial, economic, and social justice have inspired generations of faith leaders.
The LDI carries that work forward, inviting leaders and learners to connect faith with the challenges and possibilities of their communities.
The Institute’s programming is grounded in five interconnected areas:
THE WORK IS ALREADY BEGINNING
Initial programming is underway with Rev. Dr. Iva E. Carruthers’ God Box Talks. Additional LDI masterclasses will feature leading scholars and practitioners, including longtime colleagues and mentees of Dr. Wright, bringing their insights and experience to a new generation of leaders.
The Institute’s framework for public theological formation will also provide a pathway toward the planned reintroduction of the Rev. Dr. Jeremiah A. Wright, Jr. Doctor of Ministry Cohort in Global Prophetic Leadership, connecting public learning with opportunities for deeper study and formation.
