The Master of Theological Studies (MTS) is a two-year degree program focused on advanced theological study. It provides a foundation for careers in ministry, education, or further academic pursuits in theology. Students can explore coursework in biblical studies, systematic theology, historical theology, and practical theology, with options for specialization.
The MTS degree must be completed within four years of matriculation into the program. Students will plan their course of studies with an advisor according to guidelines outlined in the Master’s Level Campus Life Handbook. Students may transfer units from this degree program to the Master of Divinity degree program by applying for reclassification through the Admissions Committee. This program meets a variety of the needs of international students pursuing graduate theological studies. It is also designed to meet the needs of individuals who wish to begin or to continue graduate theological education for personal or vocational enrichment.
DISTRIBUTION OF COURSES & FACULTY
The Master of Theological Studies degree is awarded upon successful completion of an approved 18-unit course of studies.
All Masters level students are required to take a six-hour workshop on preventing clergy sexual misconduct before graduation.
ADMISSION TO THE PROGRAM
Prospective students seeking admission to the Master of Theological Studies program at McCormick must meet the following requirements:
• Hold a Bachelor’s degree (BA or BS) from an accredited institution or Bachelor’s equivalent (ask our admissions rep about BA equivalency requirements).
• Maintain a grade point average of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale in post-secondary education.
• Exhibit readiness and aptitude for graduate study ,attested by an academic reference and autobiographical statement.
• Possess a commitment to emotional health and spiritual formation as attested by personal and church references.
• Display evidence of a commitment to the values and principles upon which the McCormick community is based.
TUITION/INVESTMENT
The tuition for entering students at the master’s level of study at McCormick is $960 per course.
