The General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.)'s Committee on Theological Education, comprising seminary presidents and other denominational leaders and staff, held its annual meeting at McCormick Theological Seminary in September. Among the most important action items was the commissioning of two different task forces to address the problem of the rapidly growing number of PCUSA congregations unable to afford ordained pastoral leadership. According to COTE, approximately one-half of the 11,000 congregations fall into this category.
